Sleaford Town U11 B 1
Owen Park (1)
Metheringham 1

Town entertained third placed Metheringham knowing a win in this eagerly anticipated clash would elevate them above the visitors in the league table.
As with recent games Sleaford gained the early advantage after 5 minutes of play. Midfield maestro Zac Willmont collected the ball on the halfway line and with a delightful pass found Owen Park running into the channel, Town’s number 9 outpaced the defence and his shot from just outside the penalty was too hot for the keeper and the ball bounced into the goal for the lead.
The remainder of the first half was dominated by the defences of both teams as they thwarted the attacking moves that developed.
As expected, Metheringham came out for the second half with all guns blazing and the ever reliable Matt Woodiwiss had to dig in defensively aided by impressive performances from Elliott Hoy and Thomas Hollier.
On the occasions, Town’s defence was breached Metheringham found keeper Lewis Brockington in inspired form pulling off a string of outstanding saves to deny the visitors.
Metheringham’s pressure on the Sleaford goal eventually brought the equaliser their play deserved 10 minutes from time, Ryan Metheringham’s fine wing play on the left took him to the byeline and his clever cut back was met by Samuel Low whose first time shot just eluded Brockington’s outstretched hand to nestle in the back of the net.
In the closing stages Sleaford attacked in numbers and almost snatch the winning goal got when Zac Willmont hit the cross bar with a well executed half volley from the edge of the penalty area.
In the end though both teams were content with a share of the points.

Credit to both teams in this keenly contested match.
